Ustler County resident Kirk D. Shultis, age 33, of Saugerties, was arrested on Wednesday, March 8.

On Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, Saugerties Police responded to a private residence on Malden Turnpike in the town of Saugerties, for a report of a burglary that occurred to both the victim’s residence and garage, said Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra.

During the course of the investigation, Saugerties detectives developed evidence connecting the burglary to a string of burglaries that had occurred in the fall of 2022, throughout the town and village of Saugerties, Sinagra said.

As a result of the investigation, detectives arrested Shultis on the charge of felony burglary, he added.

Shultis was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash, a $500,000 secured bond, and a $750,000 partially secured bond.

"Shultis had just bailed out of the County Jail days earlier on burglary charges, prior to his most recent arrest," Sinagra said.

He is also facing charges from the kidnapping of his daughter of endangering the welfare of a child and custodial interference.
